The Basics
Fountaincity.com
IS...
An online publication
that will help define the identity
of Black Kansas City. Who we are,
what we are about, what we are accomplishing
and where we are going. We address
the void of information in our community
keeping people informed, connected
and empowered.
A new voice for urban Kansas City
where you can express ideas and
discuss issues that effect you with
people in the community. Learn about
the resources available for you
to succeed in life or in business.
Find out what’s going on in
your community and raise your community
awareness about organizations making
a difference, and how you can get
involved.
An alternative
to the mainstream media whose loyalty
to the bottom line outweighs is
loyalty to the community.
Fountaincity.com serves the community
in three main ways
Independent media
In recent years,
the number of companies who control
the majority of the media has been
shrinking rapidly, leaving enormous
political and economic power in
the hands of just a few corporate
titans. Since 1975, two-thirds of
independent newspaper owners and
one-third of independent television
owners have disappeared. Only 281
of the nation's 1,500 daily newspapers
remain independently owned. The
three largest newspaper publishers
control 25% of daily newspaper circulation
worldwide.
What wrong with the media –
www.freepress.net
Studies indicate
that while we have an overwhelming
amount of information available
to the masses, the means of reaching
those massess is fro the most part
controlled by few worldwide media
corporations. Foutaincity.com is
an independent news source covering
issues and subjects that mainstream
media won’t, a central platform
for urban information providing
more in-depth coverage of the Kansas
City African American Community.
Community Empowerment
Three basic
commodities that allow people to
take action: 'Information (data,
technical knowledge, political intelligence,
expertise); resources (funds, materials,
space, time); and support (endorsement,
backing, approval, legitimacy).'
('The Change Masters') --- Rosabeth
Moss Kanter
The future
belongs to those who are informed.
As the world grows more technologically
advanced, people who have the information
will be able to take advantage of
opportunities to come with these
advances. The people that don’t
have the information will be left
at a serious disadvantage. Fountaincity
speaks to the informational void
in the community providing access
to the commodities necessary for
empowerment.
Promote Kansas City
Much of what
Kansas Citians take for granted,
people in other states often perceive
as unique, potent and even on occasion,
exotic. This is one reason why,
in Missouri, tourism generates over
12 billion dollars in expenditures,
over half a billion dollars in state
tax revenue and over 200,000 jobs.
Kansas City's jazz, blues, gospel,
bluegrass, country music, barbecue,
frijoles, horsemanship, powwows;
camping, etc. constitute a virtually
unlimited source of joy, consciousness
and beauty. Our homegrown culture
constitutes a potential economic
gold mine. - Lloyd Daniels
Fountaincity.com

City’s Black community. We
want to showcase what Kansas City
