Introducing
Michelle Buckley & Bulletproof
Soul
|
|
Michelle
Buckley is a newly published author
from Kansas City Mo. Her debut novel,
Bulletproof Soul released May 2005
through Urban Books, a publishing
company owned by best-selling author
Carl Weber (The Preacher's Son,
Player Haters). She is a KU graduate
with degrees in journalism and psychology,
has worked in marketing for a national
youth organization, as a publicist
for Hallmark Cards and as a freelance
writer for publications like Black
Enterprise Magazine. Her writing
is also included in the bestseller
among black women, Souls of My Sisters
(Kensington, 2000).
Michelle's
novel, Bulletproof Soul, celebrates
the resiliency of women from the
ghettos to the 'burbs by offering
a real and fearless portrayal of
friendship, family, career, lost
love, lost minds, broken hearts
and unbreakable spirits. She says
about her inspiration to write the
book "I wanted to tell an entertaining
story that celebrated women and
our resiliency. Black women especially
go through a lot in life and it's
amazing to me how so many of us
are not destroyed by the things
that happen to us. I wanted to honor
that strength of spirit. Also, I
wanted to write an anti-'Men are
Dogs' book. Good, take-your-breath-away
men do exist
"
Bulletproof
Soul is the story of Lacy Foxx,
an entertainment reporter who embarks
on a soul-searching journey of self-discovery.
Along the way, she faces many challenges.
This includes romance with a charismatic
and not-quite-what-he-seems entrepreneur
who volunteers with her at a local
Youth Center. It also includes a
contentious relationship with her
ex-fiancé Sebastian Gamble,
baby momma drama, a demanding job,
and the deaths of people close to
her. Additionally, Lacy has to deal
with the embarrassment of having
her never-before-married grandmother
beat her down the aisle. Through
it all, Lacy learns to nurture her
indestructible spirit...her bulletproof
soul...and in doing so, she learns
some surprising things about herself
and those she loves.
"I hope
my passion for writing and my respect
for readers comes across. Also,
I hope people recognize I'm dedicated
to writing good books about life
journeys featuring realistic characters
who are hopefully remembered long
after my books are closed and put
away."
