Groove is a
book written by Bernice McFadden
under the pseudo name Geneva Holliday.
The book is about four friends and
how their lives changed between
the seasons of Spring and Summer.
The first character we meet is Geneva
Holliday. She is an overweight single
mom that has the duty of taking
care of a hard headed teenage boy.
Geneva feels that she can't get
anyone to love her, but it's really
her self image that's getting in
the way! She's barely making ends
meet with a job that she thoroughly
hates! Her son looks down on her
because she's not the strong mother
that she once uses to be. Oh and
by the way...if that's not the worst
she can get...she's sleeping around
with a married man! HER EX-HUSBAND!!!
Yeah she's knocking those old raggedy
boots with the man she KNOWS that's
not worth a rusty penny and treated
her like sloppy seconds when they
were married and definitely now!
Now Geneva is friends with Crystal,
Chevy, and Noah. They are the other
main characters in the story that
really carry their own dynamic on
their own and together as well!
Crystal is the savvy sister in the
group that has everything going
in the right direction! She is the
director of a foundation that helps
women down on their luck! She's
very educated and has the most perfect
boyfriend...as far as she can tell!
Except one thing...will that boyfriend
ever propose? Ok, if that's the
only thing that Crystal is worried
about then you know there's drama
to be had here! Just wait and see!
Chevy, well hell...Chevy could have
had a book to herself! She's the
most unstable person in this book
emotionally and financially...and
however other way you can think
of! Chevy, keeps a job...some of
the time! But she's more interested
in trying to make her financial
status better....WITH SOMEONE ELSE'S
MONEY! Yes Chevy is a modern day
gold digger! She basically tries
to scam several different men at
the same time so that her bills
are paid! Well as luck would have
it Chevy runs out of her bag tricks
and really gets herself in a sticky
situation!
She's a hot mess! She gets thrown
out of her apartment and mooches
off her friends...which is nothing
new! She gets so desperate that
she puts her life at risk...and
not in a noble way! During this
lil escapade she finds out a huge
secret about Crystal's boyfriend
that will definitely change their
relationship forever!
Noah is the official "man girlfriend"
of the group! He's definitely gay...or
is he?! Well Noah is successful
in his own right! He has met the
love of his life, that lives in
London, that he goes to see frequently...so
what could the problem be??? Well
Noah is struggling with the fact
that he's all of a sudden drawn
to women.... and guess who he blames
it on? Beyonce! Yes Beyonce is the
root of all evil and made this man
confused! He's been trying to fight
the urge to slide in between a woman's
legs but as of late...he's failing
big time! He eventually goes to
a support group for gay men that
are persuaded into becoming heterosexual!
Ok I know this is a stretch...but
it's really a hilarious spin that
will make you laugh at every turn
of a page!
At the end of the book, everyone
make changes that were definitely
needed and face their own truths
in the end. KC Girlfriends Book
Club definitely had plenty to talk
about during our book club meeting!
We thoroughly loved this book and
hope that everyone will pick it
up as well!
